The Sunderbans are the world’s largest mangrove forests. They are spread over 10,000 sq km in India and Bangladesh. On the Indian side, there are 100 islands; of them 54 are inhabitated. Sagar is the biggest (500 sq km) and it houses over 200,000 people. It is also home to a rich variety of flora and fauna such as the Royal Bengal Tiger and the Blue Fiddler crab.
