He was admitted in Mumbai’s Tunga hospital and was on ventilator support since December 2.
‘CID’ actor Dinesh Phadnis, known to play the role of Fredericks in the popular show, passed away on Monday (December 4) night. As per a report in E-Times, the actor breathed his last at around midnight, and his last rites would be performed today. He has been on ventilator support since December 2. He was 57 years old.
While several media reports mentioned that he was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack, his ‘CID’ co-star Dayanand Shetty later clarified that he did not have a heart attack.
“Dinesh Phadnis is hospitalised and on a ventilator, doctors are observing him. He has not suffered a heart attack, it is a different treatment and I wouldn’t like to comment on it,” Dayanand, who was seen as Senior Inspector Daya in ‘CID’, confirmed to The Indian Express.
Coming to the popular detective show ‘CID’, it started airing on television in 1998 became one of the most popular TV shows, having a glorious run till 2018. In fact, it is one of the longest-running shows on Indian television. On the show, Dinesh played the role of Fredericks and his character was loved for his comic timing and fun banter with other characters on the show. His camaraderie with Shivaji Satam’s ACP Pradyuman also wowed the audience each time.
Other than acting in the show, Dinesh had also written some of the episodes of the show. He was also seen in a cameo role in ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, another long-running sitcom. As for films, he was part of ‘Sarfarosh’ and ‘Super 30’, and he had also written for a Marathi film.
