'Gadar 2' Vs 'OMG 2' Box Office Collection: Sunny Deol Starrer Takes A Solid Start; Akshay Kumar's Film Makes A Decent Opening

Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel starrer 'Gadar 2' and Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' locked horns at the box office on August 11. The former had a massive opening while the latter opened with a single digit.

Two mega movies, 'Gadar 2' and 'OMG 2' clashed at the box office on August 11. Given the buzz and the promotions, it was expected that the Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel will have a massive opening and it proved correct. The movie had a thunderous start on Day 1 while the Akshay Kumar starrer had a decent opening at the box office on its first day of release. The reviews of both movies are overwhelming. 

'Gadar 2', the sequel to the 2001 blockbuster film 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha', earned Rs 40 crore in theatres on Day 1, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. It had an overall occupancy of over 60% on day one, while night shows had 86% occupancy. 

This is a higher occupancy than Shah Rukh Khan’s 'Pathaan' on opening day. However, 'Pathaan' opened with Rs 55 crore on Day 1. 'Gadar 2' has beaten Prabhas’ 'Adipurush', which earned Rs 32 crore on its first day. 

As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the Anil Sharma directorial may earn Rs 120 crore in the opening weekend and Rs 175 crore over the extended Independence Day holiday weekend. 

Talking about the Friday collection of 'OMG 2', as per Sacnilk, the film raked in Rs 9.50 crore net in India as per early estimates. It had an overall 37.53 % Hindi occupancy. 'OMG 2' is a sequel to Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar-starrer 'OMG: Oh my God' that released in 2012.

'Gadar 2' also stars Utkarsh Sharma, Simratt Kaur Randhawa and Gaurav Chopra among others while 'OMG 2' features Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in pivotal roles apart from Akshay Kumar.
