'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Baazigar' Lyricist Dev Kohli Passes Away At 81

Veteran lyricist Dev Kohli, who wrote songs for films like 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Baazigar' and 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun' breathed his last on Saturday, August 26.

Veteran lyricist Dev Kohli, who wrote songs for films like 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Baazigar' and 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun' breathed his last on Saturday, August 26. He was 81. He was unwell and was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai. 

The news of Dev Kohli’s demise was confirmed by his spokesperson to Indianexpress.com. The spokesperson said, ''Kohli ji was admitted at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital for the last few months, he was not keeping well and passed away in his sleep early, on Saturday morning.”

As per a report in India Today, Dev Kohli's antim darshan will be held from 2 pm onwards at his home in Lokhandwala Complex, Mumbai. His last rites will be performed at 6 pm at Oshiwara Crematorium, Jogeshwari West. 

Dev Kohli was born on November 2, 1942, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and after shifting from Delhi in 1949, he spent his childhood in Dehradun. In his career span, He penned songs for over 100 films including 'Judwaa 2', 'Musafir', 'Shoot Out At Lokhandwala' and 'Taxi No. 9 2 11' among others. His last work was for Kangana Ranaut starrer 'Rajjo'. Dev worked with some famous music directors like Anu Malik, Anand Milind, Raam Laxman, and Anand Raaj Anand among others. 

He made his debut in Bollywood with the movie 'Gunda' in 1969, but the song 'Geet Gaata Hoon Main' from the 1971 movie 'Laal Patthar' was the turning point of his career.
