‘Salaar’ Box Office Collection Day 1: Prabhas’s Film Mints Rs 95 Crore On Opening Day In India, Dethrones 'Jawan'

Prabhas-starrer has moved ahead of domestic collections of SRK’s ‘Jawan’ on its first day, which collected Rs 75 crore nett.

Prabhas starrer ‘Salaar’, helmed by Prashanth Neel, released in the cinema halls of December 22. The film, which was one of the most awaited projects this year, made a great debut at the box office by collecting Rs 95 crores nett domestic on its opening day in India. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Salaar’ witnessed an 88 percent occupancy in Telugu on the first day, after getting released in five languages– Hindi, Telugu, English, Tamil, and Kannada.

Interestingly, as per film’s producers Hombale Films, Prabhas’ film has made Rs 175 crore (early estimates) worldwide gross. In the USA and North America, the film was at the second spot in the top 5 premieres gross for Indian movies, and collected $2.60 Million. Other top-grossing films across that region include ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘Kabali’, and ‘Leo’ with $2.45 Million, $1.92 Million, and $1.86 Million, respectively.

Coming to the domestic market, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ was the biggest opener of the year so far as it collected Rs 75 crore nett on its first day. However, ‘Salaar’ has dethroned ‘Jawan’, and proved to be a massive comeback for Prabhas.

His last film, the big-budget period drama ‘Adipurush’, opened with Rs 86.75 crore nett in India. He was also seen in ‘Radhe Shyam’ with Pooja Hegde, and opened with Rs 43.10 crore nett. In 2019, his other film ‘Saaho’ had also collected Rs 89 crore nett. However, the box office numbers for all these films hugely dipped in the first week. So let’s see how ‘Salaar’ pans out for the actor.

As for director Prashanth Neel, who previously helmed the ‘KGF’ films, the box office opening for ‘Salaar’ is not the best of his career. His 2022 film ‘KGF 2’ opened with Rs 116 crore nett in India and collected over Rs 1000 crore worldwide.

‘Salaar’, apart from Prabhas, also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur, the project would be released in two parts: ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ and ‘Shouryaanga Parvam’ as Part 2.

The film clashed with Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ at the box-office. Helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, ‘Dunki’ collected Rs 30 crores on the first day, and it has raced past Rs 50 crore nett at the box office in two days of its release.
