Mexican-American actor Adan Canto, who is remembered by 'The Cleaning Lady,' and 'Designated Survivor,' died Monday after a private battle with appendiceal cancer. He was 42.
Canto was the lead actor in Fox's 'The Cleaning Lady' for the first two seasons. However, he couldn't film the beginning of Season 3 in December after the end of the Hollywood strikes due to his health deteriorating. He hoped to join the cast later on, but now the show will pay homage to him in the premiere of Season 3.
Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, the musician-turned-actor grew up in Texas. He has songwriting credits for various Mexican TV shows and films, and eventually made his way on stage in Pedro Almodóvar’s adaptation of 'All About My Mother.' And, his TV debut was on 'Estado de Gracia' back in 2009.
He began to shoot for many local commercials and TV shows before he bagged a major role that marked his breakthrough. His American acting debut happened with Fox's 'The Following' 11 years ago. He then went on to showcase his versatility as an actor with 'Mixology,' 'Narcos,' 'Blood & Oil' and 'Second Chance.'
His first major part in a film was playing the superhero Sunspot in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' in 2014. He has also acted in films like 'Amanda & Jack Go Glamping,' '2 Hearts,' 'Agent Game,' 'Bruised' to name a few. He also has directing credits with 'Before Tomorrow.'
“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honoured to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in ‘The Following’ more than a decade ago,” Warner Bros. and Fox Entertainment jointly said.
His wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, also took to social media to announce the passing of her "forever treasure."
The late actor is survived by his wife, and two children, Roman Alder, 3 and Eve Josephine, 1.
