Actor Akshay Kumar's interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the 2019 general election grabbed the headlines. He was called as 'bhakt' of Modi and there was a meme fest on Akshay and Modi post the interview. In a recent interview, he dismissed the tag and said that people say things that suit their narrative.
In an interview with Times Now, when Akshay was asked about the tag of ‘Modi Bhakt’ and making films promoting the ruling government's initiatives in his films, the actor said that he isn’t ‘into politics’.
He said, “It’s true. Some people accuse me of promoting Swachh Bharat through Toilet: Ek Prem Katha; I also made Padman. But nobody notices that I made Airlift, which was set during the Congress era. Even Mission Raniganj is set during the Congress era. But nobody is pointing that out. They only say these things when it’s convenient for their narrative.”
In a conversation with India Today, the 'Ram Setu' actor said anybody would have ‘grabbed the opportunity had they been offered it'. Stating that his interview was to know the human side of PM Modi, he said, “I wanted to know the human side of him, I felt like asking him. I wanted to know why he wears a watch upside-down. I wanted to ask him how much money he has in the bank. I’m not going to ask him about policies.”
On the work front, Akshay's latest release was 'Mission Raniganj'. The movie is not performing well at the box office but compared to other films that clashed with it, the rescue thriller is doing well.
