Reportedly, PSL franchises objected to the decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to sign Ali Zafar for the PSL 9 anthem. It is said that Ali had prepared three songs, out of which one was selected.
Singer-actor Ali Zafar is not only popular in Pakistan but also in India. Before the ban on Pakistani artistes in India, Ali crooned several songs for Bollywood films and also acted in films like 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, 'Chashme Baddoor' and 'Dear Zindagi' among others. The latest report suggests that Ali might not be allowed to perform the Pakistan Super League (PSL 9) anthem. For the unversed, PSL 9 will begin from 17 February 2024 at the PCB's headquarters in Lahore.
As per the media partner, PSL franchises objected to the decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to sign Ali Zafar for the anthem of PSL. It is said that Ali had prepared three songs, out of which one was selected.
Later, a female official from a PSL franchise slammed the decision of PCB to hire the 'Jhoom' singer to compose and sing the song.
She claimed that Ali Zafar's association with the anthem might have a huge impact on the league’s reputation, as he was accused of harassment allegations in the past. The PCB considered it and has decided to withdraw its decision to involve Ali Zafar in the song.
On January 12, Ali Zafar took to the X platform to know the public's opinion on if he did the PSL anthem, would enhance the brand image of PSL and PCB. He wrote, ''Do you think that if I did the anthem of PSL this year, it will enhance the image of the brand of PSL and PCB, deepen the connection with people, and bring more financial benefit to all stakeholders or will it prove to be otherwise? Be honest with your votes. I have no ego and I won’t mind. I just want to see how the people of Pakistan think and what their wishes are vs a few individuals in positions of influence or power.''
