Amit Sadh who has shared screen space with Shilpa Shetty in ‘Sukhee’ was all praise for the actress. He said he has a special place for Shilpa in his heart.
‘Sukhee’ starring Shilpa Shetty as lead hit the theatres on September 22. The movie created a lot of buzz before its release and it is getting positive responses from critics and audiences alike. It has all the factors of entertainment and strikes a chord. The movie also stars Kusha Kapila, Pavleen Gujral, Dilnaz Irani and Chaitanya Choudhary. Amit Sadh has a special appearance in the Sonal Joshi directorial.
Ahead of the release of ‘Sukhee’, we had a conversation with Amit Sadh where he revealed why he said ‘yes’ to the film despite having a cameo, spoke about women-led films and shared his working experience with Shilpa Shetty.
Speaking to Garima Das, Amit said that ‘Sukhee’ is the first film to which he said ‘yes’ without reading the script and it was all because of producer Vikram Malhotra. He said, “The producer of the film, Vikram Malhotra is like a mentor to me. Whenever he offers me a role, I don’t ask. I believe in loyalty, I believe in people who have been instrumental in making your career, and you will never question them. That’s what I learned from my father and that’s something I think I have proved in the industry that I am a very loyal person. So while I was bulking up like a monster for Breathe 3, it was six months before Vikram sir told me that he was making a movie called Sukhee and he had a role and asked me to do it and be charming. This is the first time in my career I didn’t read the script and said yes.”
Amit added, “To be honest it was fun because in one studio I was filming for Breathe and was flexing muscles. One day I was shooting for Breathe and Sukhee simultaneously and I went to Sukhee set after a half day of grumpiness, method acting and being in the zone, I was with these pretty ladies, director Sonal, Kusha and Shilpa and I was smiling. I remember Vikram sir walking on the set and saying, “are ye has raha hain, Breathe ke set pe toh sabko darata hain”. That’s the story of Sukhee and I had fun playing the cameo. It’s a special film and I hope people like it.”
Asked if there is a long way to go in terms of women-centric films, the ‘Kai Po Che’ actor said, “The conversation is not about doing a women-oriented film or a male-oriented film. I just want and hope we become a society that treats women as equals. Once you treat women as equals, these conversations won’t rise and it will automatically neutralize and balance.”
Amit showered praise on Shilpa as he said, “I love her and I hope to do a full-fledged film with Shilpa. She is just amazing and a bundle of joy. She is always giggling and dancing. I think she is a very strong woman and one thing I told her and telling you is that this film or this performance of hers will mark a new kind of bandwidth and a new direction into her career. She has done a great job. I have a special place for her in my heart and I really hope this movie works for her because she is brilliant in it and all the girls in this film are such amazing, strong, charming and happy women.”
“I also feel Sonal, the director of the film has done a fabulous job. We often forget the writers and directors and now I think in our industry we should also learn to focus on writers and directors also because actors are nobody. We are what the writers write. If you see in Hollywood there is so much respect for writers and directors. In India, we don’t focus on them,” he added.
