Angad Bedi who was last seen in ‘Ghoomer’ said that post ‘Pink’ he has become more bankable.
From playing the role of an antagonist in ‘Pink’ to donning the character of a cricketer in ‘Inside Edge to being a supportive boyfriend in ‘Ghoomer’, actor Angad Bedi has not confined himself to just one kind of role. In his career spanning over 19 years, he has proved his mettle in acting by playing diverse roles. Today, he is one of the most versatile actors in the industry.
Angad told Garima Das of Outlook India that getting to play different kinds of roles is also a challenge. He added, ''Yes, I have done all kinds of roles. I started off with Pink as Rajveer Singh, I moved into Soorma, and then I did Tiger Zinda Hai with Ali Abbas Zafar. Then I moved to Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and then I moved to a very lovely film which is a short film called The List where there was no single dialogue. It did really well and got lots of love from the audience and I got appreciation for my work. It was opposite Kirti Kulhari. Then Lust Stories 2 happened and then Ghoomer. I just feel that I have been very lucky to project different parts, the reason being I always believed that actors shouldn't be boxed. For me, an actor’s journey is very personal and private and I feel that every time I come on screen, the audience has to look at me from a very different lens and they shouldn't feel that my work is getting repetitive and that's what my constant challenge to myself is also.''
Most of his movies have done well at the box office while some haven’t. Asked if box office numbers matter, he said, ''Of course, box office numbers matter because eventually a successful film drives many other factors. It also determines what you sign next, determines the star cast of the next film you will be part of, it determines your approach and many factors. I feel that box office is a very healthy way of looking at it because eventually, everybody wants to achieve the numbers that they want to.''
Angad feels that post ‘Pink’ he has become a bankable actor. ''All my works have got a lot of recognition. What has changed is the fact that now with every film that you do or every role you take, you become more and more bankable. From Pink I got recognition. Before that, you struggle to get work. I have done two films before that which didn't really hit home and then Pink hit home and then my career began and even in Inside Edge, I got lots of love. As an actor, I just feel that everybody waits and watches and with each project you become more bankable. So, yes, I have become a bankable actor and I would like to make it even stronger,’’ he said.
Bedi also added, ''With each film, I got confidence and explored different avenues. I also feel an actor's journey is very personal, it’s the life experiences which you go through and which you hold on to and that's how you project yourself to a certain film, a scene or a character. That’s why you see actors in their 40s or mid-40s they have seen life and have been through many circles of influence in life whether its ups and downs or family as a fulfilment, every aspect and avenue that you go through as an individual you learn from them. Sometimes they are bitter, sometimes they are sweet and sometimes bitter-sweet. You gain from them and sometimes you hold on to that emotion as much as possible and you let that emotion out on the screen.''
