Avinash Tiwary On Why He Stayed Away From Television: I Don't Have The Skill Set Of Maintaining One Character

Did you know before making his Bollywood debut with 'Tu Hai Mera Sunday' (2016), actor Avinash Tiwary did a few television shows? He appeared in Amitabh Bachchan's starrer TV show ‘Yudh’ in 2014. He played an advocate. Not only ‘Yudh', he also appeared in an episode of ‘Rishta.Com’, that was produced by YRF TV. Avinash didn't get his due from his television stints and in 2018, he got critical praise for his performance in the film 'Laila Majnu'. He made his foray into digital space with Netflix's series, 'Khakee: The Bihar Chapter' and post that there is no looking back for him. His recent releases are 'Kaala' and 'Bambai Meri Jaan' for which he has been getting overwhelming responses. 

Recently, Outlook India had a conversation with Avinash where he spoke about both television and OTT and how the latter had opened doors for budding actors, directors and writers. 

Asked if OTT has given more liberty to the artists, he said, "I don't think it's the liberty that the platform has provided but what the platform has done overall is that it has created a space where there is a lot of content being made, lot of films and series being made. This is a big content boom in our industry at this point of time. It provides great opportunities for writers, directors, and technicians to artists like us. So, what it has done is given the opportunity for a lot of people."

Avinash added, "But apart from that I think everything else is just similar. I have been very few with my television appearances. Most of it had been weekly shows like Yudh which was with Mr. Bachchan created by Anurag Kashyap or weekly shows here and there.’’

The ‘Bulbbul’ actor also revealed that he always wanted to stay away from television. Tiwary shared, ''I always wanted to stay away from television because I think I don't have that skill set that is required to go on for 18 hours every day almost 28 days a month maintaining one character. I just felt I was incapable of that kind of skill set and OTT thankfully came through in a space where most of the shows are shot like films and the opportunities have come through.’’

"I don't think there is any difference in the liberty of an artist to do something. I personally don’t think that has made any difference to me," he signed off.
