Ajay Devgn starrer 'Maidaan' is one of the highly anticipated movies. Ajay is playing legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in the sports drama. The movie has been delayed several times due to the pandemic and other reasons. The latest reports stated that the movie has been delayed due to budget and unfinished shoot. In an interview with Hindustan Times, co-producer Boney Kapoor opened up about the rumours and revealed the status of the film.

He said, “I recently showed some portions of the film to almost 300 people in Chennai and they loved it. The film’s shoot is complete; however, extensive VFX work is underway, which is taking some time. Contrary to what reports suggest, the budget has not been exceeded.”

It is said that the release date of 'Maidaan' will be decided next week.

The official spokesperson for the film also rubbished the reports, saying, “The film is on track, and there are no issues. The film’s release date is pending as of now.”

As per the same portal, a source close to the film’s production team said that the reason behind the delay in finalising the release date is due to the crowded lineup of releases of big movies like Tiger 3 that is all set to release on Diwali, Animal on December 1 and Dunki on Christmas this year.

The source added, “Maidaan is a unique film with a long-lasting appeal. It is expected to gain momentum through word of mouth, much like Dangal. Hence, we are taking our time to select the date and there’s no rush''.

On the work front, Ajay is busy with Rohit Shetty's 'Singham Again', that also  has  Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh. It was announced recently with film's mahurat. The pics of Ajay, Ranveer and Rohit praying at the film's mahurat went viral on social media.
