Christmas: Celebs Open Up About Their Memories Of The Festival And How They’re Going To Celebrate

Christmas is one time of the year when everyone comes together to celebrate. While Christians do it for religious purposes but almost every other cast celebrates this occasion in India as the weather is the best at this time and the new year is also around, so everyone is in a holiday spirit. Whenever there is talk of celebrations, celebs too aren’t far behind. Many celebs bring home Christmas trees and decorate their homes. Many do various lighting decors outside their homes or balconies to get into the Christmas fever.

Somy Ali, who has been someone who has been celebrating Christmas for many years now, opens up about how she celebrates the festival. She says, “For the last 16 years, I’ve celebrated Christmas with the kids rescued by No More Tears. There’s nothing better than watching them open their gifts and seeing those big smiles on their faces. Their happiness is what makes me truly happy. So, the best gift for me is being with my kids on Christmas Day. Making others happy is the most meaningful thing in life that brings me real joy.”

Add to the same, Anupama Solanki says, “I always get super excited about Christmas because it’s a special religious festival for Christians. I love the festive decorations in the streets. When I was in school, I used to go to church with my friends because I believed Santa would come and bring gifts every year. I used to go to Mount Mary Church in Bandra because I feel positive vibes there.”

It’s true, the Mount Mary Church in Bandra is indeed one of the liveliest places in the city on this day. People from all over the town come to see the beauty of this church on this day. The way the church is decorated is seen to be believed.

Rohit Choudhary opens up about the festivities. He says, “For me, Christmas means sweets and the sight of children playing around Santa Claus. In Delhi, it reminds me of winter and the sound of Christmas bells, and lots of decorations in and around the vicinity. Christmas has an amazing festive vibe. We are a culturally very rich country and being a part of every festival is part and parcel of being Indian. We like to generally be home during festivities. It’s cosy and homebound. We are blessed to enjoy and have a few days of vacation at any time of the year. That’s how we balance work as well.”

“Honestly, I don’t have a lot of Christmas memories. The main thing I remember is the fair (mela) in my town that we used to go and enjoy. I come from a middle-class family and spent my childhood in a small town. Most of my Christmas memories are from Mumbai, where I met different people. When I was working on Dil Dosti Dance (D3), I made some Christian friends who made Christmas more enjoyable by sharing their food and inviting me to their homes,” adds Kunwar Amar.

Nivedita Basu opens up about her memories and celebration strategies for this year. “Christmas is a special tradition for me and Yadu. For the past 23 years, we’ve been going to church on Christmas Eve. Even after our kids were born, we continued the tradition with them. Now, we’ve added another tradition of decorating our home for Christmas, especially putting up a tree. My girl Yogita and I take care of the decorations, and we keep them up for about 10-15 days because the kids love them. As the year-end approaches, I make sure to have extra time for the kids since my elder one will be on holiday and will want to do something fun. I try to plan my work so that I can spend quality time with them. Fortunately, my boss understands and supports me in spending more time with my kids. So, Christmas is a festive time focused on the kids. One thing that remains unchanged is our ritual of visiting the church on the night of the 24th,” she says.

Adding to the same Shivangi Verma says, “Christmas for me is a festival of cakes, cookies and lots of gifts. I love to decorate the Christmas tree and spend some quality time with my loved ones. I love the aura it creates in the city and the positive vibes are just irreplaceable. It is the celebration of joy, love, and togetherness.”

It is truly a time when everything is having a feel-good factor. It is the time of the year when you want to forget all the mistakes and troubles of the past year and want to start the new year with brand-new vigour and enthusiasm.

‘Bigg Boss’ is making waves on the television screens and former ‘BB’ star Sumbul Touqeer also talks of her Christmas memories and celebrations. “Well, I just cannot believe that this year has come to an end. We all know that Christmas marks the beginning of the new year and the new year brings a lot of joy and happiness in our lives. So, for me, the significance of Christmas is that it gives us a chance to spend some quality time with our family and create memories with our loved ones. I have been celebrating Christmas with my family and loved ones. We love to decorate the Christmas tree, bake a plum cake and play games like cards. We also play games like Secret Santa in our workplace and it is so fun.”

Adding to the same thought, Sheeba Akashdeep says, “Christmas is super special to me because my husband was born on Christmas Day. That makes me really happy. I started decorating my house in early December by putting up a tree and using decorations I’ve gathered over the past 25 years. The whole house looks really festive. We celebrate with yummy traditional treats like marzipan, milk, cream, and plum cake. It’s a joyful time, and I love celebrating with my family and friends.”

“Christmas is almost here, and it’s hard to believe that the year is coming to an end. For me, Christmas is not just a festive time; it also marks the start of a new year. Growing up in Chandigarh, I have many wonderful memories of celebrating Christmas during the winter. We used to visit places like Shimla and Kasauli to experience real winter and snowfall. One tradition I fondly remember is buying socks, decorating them, and filling them with gifts—a fun way to celebrate. Back then, we weren’t sure if Santa would come, so we’d give ourselves the gifts we wanted. Now, on the set of Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai, we’re fortunate to celebrate many special occasions. This Christmas, we’ve got a big Christmas tree, and we’re ready to have a great time. I feel fortunate to be able to celebrate all these special moments along with my work,” concludes Charrul Malik.
