‘Love Storiyaan’ On Amazon Prime Video Review: Reaffirms Your Belief In Love Showing Real-Life Couples With Real-World Issues

India is filled with love stories. But are all love stories just about boy meets girls and they live happily every after? Well, not everything happens like in the movies. Amazon Prime Video has come up with a collection of real-life love stories. Stories that are grounded in reality, and coming from different corners of the country. Not just that, even Karan Johar has backed this project, who is himself regarded as a genius when it comes to showcasing love beautifully and aesthetically on the film screen. So, here’s what ‘Love Storiyaan’ is all about.

‘Love Storiyaan’ revolves around 6 real life couples. They come from diverse backgrounds and different parts of the country. They all talk of their love story and how they fell in love with their partners. They relive their unique love stories through this docu-series.

All the stories are filled with real-life couples giving interviews, and their relationship days being enacted by actors. The actors playing these real-life couples have been selected so scrutinizingly that they actually suit the look and feel of the characters to perfection. The real-life couples giving interviews as well are very articulate and speak their hearts out very enthusiastically. It’s these small nuances that make you feel so very connected to the docu-series.

‘Love Storiyaan’: Script, Direction & Technical Aspects

The direction by Rahul Badwelkar, Collin D’Cunha, Akshay Indikar, Shazia Iqbal, Hardik Mehta, Archana Phadke, Vivek Soni is quite stereotypical to say the least. New age filmmakers will have to find out newer ways to shoot docu-series. It can’t always be an interview to the camera and then in the background sometimes showing actors representing the scenes what the real-life personality is saying. There needs to be some more ingenuity brought in. Besides that, the direction didn’t provide anything new to the story. It’s like whatever the people were saying in the interviews, that was only reenacted, packaged and put together.

The writing by Tejashri Akshay, Rahul Badwelkar, Collin D’Cunha, Soumyajit Ghosh Dastidar, Akshay Indikar, Shazia Iqbal, Hardik Mehta, Archana Phadke, Arya Rothe, Vivek Soni, Mirat Trivedi and Aarsh Vora is the best part about ‘Love Storiyaan’. The writing showcases the power of love and how love triumphs over all difficulties, differences and challenges. Through the heartfelt narrative, the writing tries to show the unifying power of love, which breaks the shackles of all prejudices and foster enduring togetherness for a lifetime. Getting those emotions correctly, and making sure that the interviewees are also saying things on similar lines was a brilliant job.

Rakesh Krishna Bhilare, Linesh Desai, Harshvir Oberai, Piyush Puty and Rohin Raveendran’s cinematography brought it a depth to the story telling. Usage of low angle shots while showing someone sad and using different filters for different emotional background scenes was a good choice. Even though they tried to play safe by not trying anything innovative, still they somehow managed to get you involved as a viewer into the storyline by presenting it in a very relatable manner. That’s a tough line to master walking on.

The editing by Kaustubh Bhonge, Abhishek Gupta, Parikshhit Jha, Prem Kumar, Jabeen Merchant, Prashanth Ramachandran and Parikshhit Jha was crisp and too the point. They didn’t let the episodes sag in the middle and kept it interesting in a way to help viewers feel that mushy romantic feel at the same time while understanding the ground reality of the situation.

Shantanu Dutta, Sangeet Haldipur, Siddharth Haldipur, Sarang Kulkarni and Anurag Saikia’s music too is applause worthy. They’ve managed to give you some songs that definitely string at your heart. The soft-toned romantic theme that kept playing throughout was very appealing. However the title song that came at the end of the episodes wasn’t too catchy and felt very abrupt while coming right after the narrative stopped. It just didn’t blend well.

‘Love Storiyaan’ is a unique take of today’s real-life love stories. It doesn’t stick to the usual patterns of falling in love shown in romantic films since time immemorial. What makes these stories different are that they deal with real-life issues and yet love eventually finds a way out. That’s what makes this docu-series feel so genuine and not just a like a ball of mush. To reaffirm your faith in love, you can Repeat Watch it over and over. I am going with 3.5 stars.
