It was in 2016, filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi announced ‘Battle of Saragarhi’ where Randeep Hooda was about to play the titular character. In 2018, Akshay Kumar played the same role in ‘Kesari’.
Earlier, many celebs opened up about slipping into depression. Actor Randeep Hooda is the latest to open about it in a new interview. He was depressed after ‘Battle Of Saragarhi’ was shelved. Randeep told that he was eager to play the role of Havildar Ishar Singh in the film and did all the prep for it. But as the film got shelved, he slipped into depression as he lived the character for three years while preparing and rejected many films. It was Rajkumar Santoshi’s film.
Randeep told Mashable India, “There were many situations in life when I thought there is nothing but darkness. I went through a big stage of depression. In fact, I did Extraction in that stage of life when I was down and out. I even thought of leaving Extraction for Saragarhi and even left films for three years for Saragarhi.”
The ‘Sarbjit’ actor also said that he felt ‘cheated’ and was quite ‘affected’ by it. ''My parents won’t leave me alone. To escape from them, I would bolt my room, fearing that someone would cut my beard. Then I decided I won’t let this happen to me ever again,'' he added.
For the unversed, it was in 2016, Rajkumar Santoshi announced ‘Battle of Saragarhi’. In 2018, Akshay Kumar played the same role in 'Kesari’.
What is done cannot be undone. Randeep didn’t lose hope and later he was seen in Netflix’s ‘Extraction’ with Chris Hemsworth and 'CAT'. Now, he will be seen in ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ where he is playing the titular role of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Randeep has also produced and directed the film.
