Samantha Ruth Prabhu recalled the time she and her fellow south actors could not source garments from designers.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu is now a pan-India star but there was a time when she and other actors from the south weren’t considered to be stars. In an interview, the actress talked about how the regional language film industries have come up in the forefront in recent years, with several Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films leaving major Hindi movies behind, in terms of box office success.
To say the least, at a time when Hindi cinema was considered to be at the pinnacle, regional films like ‘RRR’, ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, ‘Kantara’ and others have managed to change the narrative.
During an interview with Gulte, Samantha said, “It’s absolutely wonderful. There were times when we south actors couldn’t source garments from designers because they were like, ‘Who are you? South actor? What south?'” She added, “We’ve come a long way from there, haven’t we? This inclusivity is quite amazing, and we’re now finally where we should be.”
Samantha said that while her career has been marred by several ups and downs, she is happy with the decision to be an ‘open book’. This prepared her for the worst,be it the time she was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, to her dealing with the separation from ex-husband Naga Chaitanya.
Nonetheless, the actress rose to nationwide fame with her special number in ‘Pushpa’, and her much-loved performance in the second season of Prime Video’s ‘The Family Man’. She is now being seen in the big budget historical drama ‘Shaakuntalam’, and has romantic film ‘Kushi’, and the Indian spinoff of Prime Video’s ‘Citadel’ in the pipeline.
