Shah Rukh Khan Does Not Consider 'Jawan', 'Pathaan' As ‘Mass Cinema’, Says ‘They Were Just Entertaining Films’

Shah Rukh Khan opened up about how he feels about his movies this year and recalls his experience working with 'Dunki' director.

The latest addition to Bollywood is Rajkumar Hirani's directorial 'Dunki.' This film on illegal immigration features Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. 2023 has been King Khan's year. He gave back-to-back success films, with 'Pathaan' in January and 'Jawan' in September.

Now with the release of 'Dunki' on Thursday, speculations have occured regarding whether this film, which is not labeled as a mass entertainer, will be able to capture audiences just like the other two did.

Opening up about the same, Shah Rukh Khan said, “I feel we kind of analyse films a lot. We keep talking too much about mass oriented and content oriented. I think films are entertainment oriented. In any which way, they make us feel good, entertain us, whatever their topic is. I don’t think 'Jawan' or 'Pathaan' were mass cinema, they were just entertaining films. I hope they were entertaining.”

The actor then went on to praise his film's director and said, “There has never been a more entertaining director than Rajkumar Hirani.” He only had good things to say about the director, and emphasized on how Hirani made everything simple for the actor.

The actor also recalled how Siddharth Anand, director of 'Pathaan,' wanted to tag along on the sets of 'Dunki,' with the purpose of watching Hirani. He said, “I was shooting 'Pathaan' or maybe the shooting had just got over and I remember Siddharth Anand told me, ‘Yaar, mujhe na Raju sir ke set pe aana hai (I want to be present at Raju sir's set). I want to see how he directs. I want to see how he gets those lines to work.’ And he came at night.”

Also starring Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Grover, Boman Irani and Vikram Kochhar in pivotal roles, 'Dunki' has garnered mixed reviews. You can now watch it in theatres near you.
