In a recent chat on Tweak India, Twinkle Khanna recalled her mother Dimple Kapadia asking her and Akshay Kumar to stay together for two years before getting married.
Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of veteran actress Dimple Kapadia and late actor Rajesh Khanna was raised by her mother after her parents were separated. Dimple was very protective of her daughter. In a recent chat on Tweak India, Twinkle recalled her mother asking her and Akshay Kumar to stay together for two years before getting married.
On the show, Masaba Gupta shared that her mother Neena Gupta did not allow her to be in a live-in relationship with her ex-husband. To which Twinkle said that her mother did the exact opposite. She said, “When my husband said he wants to marry me, my mother said, ‘Nothing doing, you live together for two years. If you make it, then you get married.'”
Recalling what Dimple told her, Twinkle said, “She said, ‘I have been married. I’ve seen what it’s like.''' Twinkle also said that she often wonders how her life would have turned out if she had grown up in a house where her mom and dad stayed together. “I feel that maybe if my parents were together, would I really want to constantly keep working, doing something? I probably wouldn’t''.
The 'Mela' actress also opened up on growing up with a single parent as she said, “I was raised largely by my mother. I would tell you that for the longest time I didn’t know that patriarchy and the patriarchal system existed because I wasn’t in the system.''
Twinkle and Akshay tied the knot in 2001 and they have two children, Aarav and Nitara.
