Utkarsh Sharma On Struggles Despite Being A Star Kid: After 'Genius' It Was Really A Difficult Time Period For Me

Director Anil Sharma's son Utkarsh Sharma made his acting debut as a child artiste in Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer 'Gadar' in 2001. In 2018, he made his Bollywood debut as an adult in his father's film 'Genius'. Post which he was not seen in any project. In an interview with Outlook, Utkarsh revealed that he was just starting his career as an actor and then the Covid-19 lockdown happened. So, he too had his share of struggles despite being a star kid. It has not been an easy journey for him. Utkarsh is now reprising his role of Charan Jeet Singh aka Jeete in the upcoming film 'Gadar 2' which is again directed by his dad. 

On the nepotism tag, Utkarsh told us he is a star kid and is privileged but he is not chasing that lifestyle. ''I am a star kid but I have never tried to present myself in that way. I always wanted to be an actor and I get happiness when I receive appreciation for my work and the smile or tears from the audience after watching my performance matters to me. I come from a filmy family background and I am privileged but I am not chasing that lifestyle. What I am chasing is I make really good films for the country.''

He added, ''Today our battle is not for the domestic market but international and it is trying to penetrate our country. As we are the new generation, we have to take this battle seriously and have to upgrade our films. My mindset is away from all of that.''

He further said that being it outsider or insider, everyone has to face struggles in life. The actor said, ''As far as struggles are concerned, everyone faces it. After Genius there was lockdown and it was really a difficult time period for me because I didn't know where I am standing now. I had just started and now I have to start all over again. It was a period of dilemma for me but I think that if you do good work you will get good results.''

The 29-year-old said that he got lots of scripts after 'Genius' and a few projects were made but they were put on hold due to lockdown. ''But I am so glad that I had some time to reflect because the reason I came to films was public. I don't want to do films that I am not convinced as an audience and I don't want to work for the sake of it. There were decent stories but they were not deeply penetrating my heart. So, if I don't get the right gut feeling about it, I would rather be patient. It's better to take your time to build something great rather than do something that is not worth it. Then it will be difficult for you and you can't remain true to your ideals. I will try to be patient in life. So, there were projects that  I left because they weren't, particularly what I would watch as an audience.''

Utkarsh also expressed his desire to do films that reach the heart of India and there is an all-India appeal.
