2019 Mahindra Bolero Spied With Airbag, Rear Sensors

• 2019 Bolero spied near Chennai with a driver airbag and rear parking sensors.

• Mahindra to update Bolero with a BS6 diesel engine ahead of April 2020.

• Bolero to also receive updates to meet crash test norms by October 2019.

The Mahindra Bolero is in dire need of updates to meet new safety norms that will become mandatory for all new cars from 1 July 2019 onwards. The brand seems to be working on this and a Bolero has been spied testing in Tamil Nadu with signs of being equipped with front airbags and rear parking sensors.

The spied Bolero unit features the same steering wheel as the TUV300. The steering wheel seems to be inscribed with “SRS Airbag”, which means availability of a driver airbag. It still has the same 2-DIN audio system and a similar dashboard as the current version of the Bolero. The parking sensors can be spotted on the rear bumper on either side of the dismount step. It doesn’t get any decals unlike the Bolero that was spied with the ABS feature.

While updates like the addition of airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors would make the Mahindra Bolero viable for sale past July 1, the current design won’t meet the safety crash norms that will be implemented from 1 October 2019. However, Mahindra has confirmed its plans of updating the Bolero to not only pass all these norms but also make the engine comply with the BS6 emission norms that’s set to take effect from April 2020.

Currently, the Mahindra Bolero is not offered with any of those safety features. The regular Bolero is priced between Rs 7.74 lakh to Rs 9.42 lakh while the more powerful Power+ version is priced between Rs 7.19 lakh to Rs 8.56 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom India).
