- It’ll be the most comprehensive update made to Honda’s highest selling scooter yet.
The new scooter will also feature a BSVI-compliant engine
According to reports, the upcoming Honda Activa 6G is expected to come with a host of updates to keep up with the times and make it more relevant in its segment. Honda is rumoured to be equipping it with telescopic forks, 12-inch alloy wheels, optional disc brakes and digital instrument console with smartphone connectivity.
However, the biggest update here might come in the form of a BSVI-compliant engine, which might be fuel-injected as well. This doesn’t really come as a surprise considering the BSVI norms are scheduled to come into effect early next year. That said, we expect Honda to stick with the same tried and tested 109.19cc HET air-cooled engine which produces 7.96PS of power and 9Nm of torque.
With all the updates, we expect the Honda Activa 6G to come at a premium of around Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 over the Activa 5G. That should put it in the range of Rs 60,000 to Rs 62,000 (ex-showroom), pitting it directly against its main competitor, the TVS Jupiter Grande, which retails for Rs 57,293 (ex-showroom Delhi). As far as when we’ll get to see it in the flesh, we think it’ll be launched at the 2020 Auto Expo.
After maintaining a dominant position for over a decade, sales for the Honda Activa has dropped in the past few months and it has been surpassed by the Hero Splendor. Whether these rumoured updates help Honda in reclaiming its top spot remains to be seen.
