The King of Superbikes goes off-roading. What sort of craziness is this?
We at Zig HQ really appreciate creativity when it comes to custom motorcycles or some mad geniuses who come up with brilliant ideas to give biking a fresh new spin. One such example was the Recidivist (a custom Harley-Davidson) and the other one is this: an off-road spec Suzuki GSX-R1000. Yes, a litre-class sportbike turned into an off-roading hooligan!
The Stunt Freaks Team (quite aptly named), took a standard GSX-R1000 and stripped out most of the parts to make it as light as possible. And in their quest to make it feather-weight, the off-road spec GSX-R1000 has no fairings; the standard exhaust system is replaced by a lightweight aftermarket unit and the alloy wheels have been replaced by a set of spoke wheels, which should offer ample traction on gravel.
The custom house has changed almost every mechanical component that you would see on a standard GSX-R1000. It gets a different suspension setup which can handle the rough with ease and instead of the twin-discs at the front, it gets a single-disc brake. Moreover, the custom GSX-R1000 gets a bigger sprocket at the rear for quicker acceleration. Powering this bike is the same 999.8cc four-cylinder motor, but it has been detuned to belt out 162PS instead of the 202PS of the standard variant. Even with a 40PS drop in power, this is still a 162PS machine meant for dirt tracks!
It might just be someone’s pet project but it just goes to prove there is no stopping the King of Superbikes, on tarmac and even off it!
