It’s expected to carry the same single-channel ABS unit as the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200
Bajaj Auto will be updating the Avenger 220 Cruise and Street with a single-channel ABS unit in the coming weeks. We expect it to be the same single-channel ABS unit seen on the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. This hardly comes as a surprise, given the government’s mandate of equipping every 125cc and above motorcycle with ABS is set to kick in from 1 April 2019. This also means a minor bump of Rs 6000 to Rs 8000 over its existing Rs 96,922 (ex-showroom Delhi) price tag is expected.
In terms of engine and design, we expect the motorcycles to remain largely unchanged. The Avenger duo are powered by the same 220cc, single-cylinder, DTSi engine. This unit churns out 19PS of power and 17.5Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. Both the Street 220 and Cruise 220 also share the same mechanical bits, with suspension duties handled by telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Braking is handled by the same 260mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum at the rear.
What separates the two motorcycles is their design and purpose. While the Cruise 220 sports a classic cruiser design with chrome garnishes, taller windshield and a backrest for a comfortable ride on the highway, the Street 220 is more....well, street friendly and subtle with a small stubby smoked visor on top, blacked out parts and satin silver finishes instead of chrome. Bajaj extensively updated the Avenger 220 last year with many value-added features. This includes LED DRLs, a fully digital instrument console and new colour schemes.
Along with the Avenger 220, Bajaj is also expected to update the Dominar 400 with USD forks, a new digital instrument console and more. As always we will be bringing you all the latest updates, until then watch this space!
