- Will be available with both petrol and diesel engines.
Trial production for the compact SUV is already underway and we expect prices to be out in September
Kia is set to reveal its debut product, a compact SUV based on the SP2i, for India on 20 June 2019. The SUV that will rival the Hyundai Creta is expected to be named Trailster or Tusker. Trial production of the SP2i started in January 2019.
Aesthetically, the Kia SP2i will look largely similar to the SP Signature that Kia showcased in Korea.
Although there is no official info on how the SP2i will look on the inside, some spy shots indicate that it will get an all-black interior and not the dual-tone black-brown interior seen in the SP concept. The test mule that was spied also featured a free standing infotainment screen next to the driver’s instrument cluster as we had seen on the concept. Also visible in the spy shot is a curved glass standing upright on the dash which could be a heads-up display unit. Earlier spy shots have also confirmed that the SP2i will get adjustable headrest for all passengers and one-touch window up/down.
Under the hood, the Creta-rival is expected to get a new set of 1.5-litre BS 6 petrol and diesel engines instead of the 1.4-litre and the 1.6-litre units seen on the Creta. Once launched, the Kia SP2i will take on the likes of the Maruti S-Cross, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur and the Duster. Prices of the Kia SUV are expected to range from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
