Mahindra XUV300 vs Maruti Brezza: Variants Comparison

While the XUV300 is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, the Brezza can be had with a diesel engine only

Launched at a starting price of Rs 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India), the XUV300 enters a hotly contested sub-4m SUV segment dominated by the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. If you're confused between the latest sub-4m SUV and the segment-leader, Maruti Brezza, we have compared their similarly priced variants to find out which one offers better value.

Before diving into the details, let’s take a look at the mechanicals of the two sub-4m SUVs.

Dimensions:

  • Both the sub-4m SUVs are identical in length, however, the XUV300 is the wider car here.
  • At 2600mm, it also has a longer wheelbase. In fact, the XUV300 has the longest wheelbase in its class. It is even longer than the Creta, which belongs to a segment above.

Engine:

  • The Mahindra XUV300 has the bigger engine of the two. It is also more powerful and produces higher torque than Maruti’s 1.3-litre DDiS 200 unit.
  • The XUV300 is available with a 6-speed MT only, whereas the Vitara Brezza can be had with a 5-speed MT or an AMT.

Variants Comparison: We will compare only the similarly priced variants (price difference Rs 50,000) of the two sub-4m SUVs.

Common Features:

Safety: Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, speed-sensing door lock, front seats seatbelt reminder and front seatbelts pretensioner and load limiters.

Exterior: Body colored bumpers, ORVMs and door handles, and steel wheels.

Comfort: Central locking, manual AC, electrically adjustable ORVMs, adjustable headrest for front and rear seats, foldable rear seats and, front and rear power windows.

Infotainment: 2-din music system with Bluetooth USB and Aux.

What the Mahindra XUV300 W4 offers over the Maruti Brezza VDI: Multiple steering modes, rear disc brakes, corner brake control, LED tail lamps, 60:40 split rear seats, third headrest for rear middle seat, tyre position monitor and passenger airbag deactivation switch.

What the Maruti Brezza VDI offers over the Mahindra XUV300: Wheel caps, keyless central locking, rear parking sensors, high speed alert system and steering-mounted audio controls.

Verdict: Both cars are quite evenly equipped here. So, if you are on a tight budget we will recommend you to go for the Maruti Brezza. However, if you can extend your budget and can go for the XUV300 W4, we suggest you do so. Because, for the premium of Rs 30,000, the XUV300 gets various segment-first features like multiple steering modes, rear disc brakes and tyre direction monitor, which not only enhance the driving experience, but also make you feel like you are driving a more expensive car.

Common Features (over previous variants)

Exterior: Wheel caps

Comfort: Steering-mounted controls, central locking with remote key and 60:40 split rear seats.

What the Mahindra XUV300 W6 offers over the Maruti Brezza ZDI: Multiple steering modes, rear disc brakes, corner brake control, LED tail lamps, third headrest for rear middle seat, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth USB and Aux, tyre position monitor and  passenger airbag deactivation switch.

What the Maruti Brezza ZDI offers over the Mahindra XUV300 W6: Alloy wheels, front fog lamps, projector headlamps, rear washer, wiper and demister, auto AC, height adjustable driver seat, rear parking sensors and high speed alert system.

Verdict: Here, we will recommend you to go for Maruti Brezza because it offers more useful features than the Mahindra XUV300 at a lesser price. The Mahindra does get some interesting features like multiple steering modes, tyre position monitor and the likes, but they are not as useful as the auto AC, height adjustable driver’s seat and rear parking sensors on the Brezza. Height adjustable driver’s seat is sorely missed on the XUV300 W6.

And as far as the touchscreen infotainment system is concerned, you can get it fitted from a Maruti dealership as an accessory. Notably, the Mahindra XUV300 also gets rear disc brakes unlike the Brezza. While that will surely enhance the braking capabilities of the Mahindra SUV, the Brezza’s front disc and rear drum brake setup won’t disappoint you either.
