- MG Hector will be British carmaker’s first product in India
Set to launch in June 2019, we expect MG to reveal the India-spec SUV in April
MG has announced that its first offering for the Indian market will be called the Hector. The 2019 MG Hector appears to share its platform and styling with the Baojun 530, which also comes under China’s SAIC Motor Corp. like MG. The Hector will be followed by an all-electric SUV by April 2020 and another SUV by September 2020.
The Hector will be completely revealed in April 2020 before its official launch in June 2019. The carmaker might open pre-launch bookings for the mid-size SUV post its reveal in April. MG had earlier announced by the time the Hector will be launched, MG will have around 45 dealerships up and running across the country.

MG Motor has already confirmed that this SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which will be shared with the Jeep Compass. There will also be a petrol engine on offer, but MG Motor is yet to reveal any details about it. It could be a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol as seen on the China-spec Baojun 530.
The MG SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 17 lakh to Rs 20 lakh and will take on likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Harrier. MG has already confirmed that the Hector will be bigger than the Honda CR-V in terms of dimensions, but it will be a 5-seater SUV only. Compared to the Jeep Compass, the Hector will be longer and wider. MG also has plans to launch a 7-seater version of the Hector as well, shortly after its launch.
Other than being priced competitively given its large dimensions, the upcoming MG SUV is expected to get many features that are available in more expensive vehicles, like a panoramic sunroof. It will also have in-built internet connectivity and the infotainment system in itself will be a large tab-like vertically placed unit.
