Feline Mystery
“A look at the gait and fire in her eyes and even the most conscientious men go weak-kneed. Emperors turn into cats at the sight of mats.... So, the story goes about this powerful media man who enjoys and revels in pleasures with the biggest and best in the business, and apparently has shared and cared together with none other than oo-laa-lla-le-o.” These are a few lines, somewhat cryptic, from a new book that a famed author and journalist, a bit eclipsed for the last two years, is hammering away. These are only contours of a novel and the author did say that these lines follow the downing of a few Bourbons, but it could soon be the book everyone is talking about.
No Contest
Sunil Khilnani and his wife Katherine Boo are on a whirlwind tour of India to promote his book Incarnations, on 50 people who helped shape the idea of India. The Delhi event was well-attended, held at the new favourite for cultural functions, the refurbished Bikaner House. But the Mumbai event, scheduled for the Saturday, March 19, had to be changed at the last minute to the afternoon. Reason: it was the night of the India-Pakistan T20 clash at Eden Gardens.
Dare To Run
Indian origin British author Sunjeev Sahota missed the Booker prize for his Year of the Runaways. But his book is among the six shortlisted for the £30,000 Dylan Thomas prize. But it’s a tough list, with Physical, Andrew McMillan’s collection of poetry, Frances Leviston’s book of poems Disinformation and Claire-Louise Bennett’s short story collection Pond in the running. The prize will be announced on May 15.
