Outlook-Picador India Non-Fiction Competition

Get published in Outlook, win prizes -- but hurry, the last date is December 14, 2001.

Outlook, India’s most exciting newsweekly, and Picador India are delighted to bring you the Second Annual Non-Fiction Competition. Once again our aim is to find and encourage the best non-fiction writing in India. The competition will be judged by a distinguished panel comprising eminent editors and writers: Outlook’s Editor-in-Chief Vinod Mehta, Managing Editor Sandipan Deb, literary critic and prize-winning novelist Amit Chaudhuri, and literary critic, novelist and journalist Pankaj Mishra.

The entries should focus on the theme of East and West. You could write about Western influences on Indian society and mores, or vice versa; areas of conflict or convergence; current events; or any issues/topics that address an aspect of the broad East-West theme. Pieces must be limited to 3,000 words. They can be serious or humorous, and any genre of non-fiction writing is acceptable. Closing date for entries will be December 14, 2001. The prizes will be presented in January 2002.

  • Outlook will publish the winning piece. All shortlisted entries will be published on www.outlookindia.com.

  • For the winner, a prize of 25 Picador paperbacks (currently in print) of the winner’s choice PLUS a cash prize of £500.

  • The two runners-up will each receive 8 Picador India titles.

Please send your entry with your name and address clearly marked on the script (not on a separate page) to:
