A few West Bengal projects now being implemented with Japanese participation: The Japanese aid agency OECF is setting up an office in Calcutta. OECF has extended a Rs 1,800 crore loan for the Bakreswar power plant, where a Japanese company is participating. OECF has approved financing for a proposed Rs 380 crore project to build at least five major flyovers in Calcutta to improve infrastructure. Mitsubishi is setting up a Rs 1,600 crore PTA plant at Haldia, with 95 per cent equity. Marubeni will set up a Rs 1,400 crore integrated steel plant. The Japanese also propose to invest over Rs 800 crore in improving the power distribution network in West Bengal.
