Jan 14: Coopers & Lybrand (C&L) identifies a discrepancy in its audit(later identified as a receivable from SLK).
Jan 16: SIMEX informs Barings that it has violated its rules and the FuturesTrading Act and Regulations.
Feb 2: Leeson presents forged documents to C&L to support his explanation onthe SLK transaction.
Feb 17: Barings settlement clerk Anthony Railton informs superiors of14-billion-yen discrepancy in funds moved between Barings Group companies. Leeson agreesto meet Railton on 19 February but doesnt turn up.
Feb 23: Barings South Asia CEO Simon Jones, Railton and Leeson meet about thediscrepancy. After 10 minutes, Leeson says he has to go to the hospital to see his wife.He does not return. Leeson and wife leave Singapore and check into Regent Hotel, KualaLumpur.
Feb 24: Unable to locate Leeson, senior Barings managers realise that he mayhave fled. They enter Leesons office and discover papers relating to Account 88888.Leeson faxes Barings from Kuala Lumpur apologising for having fled and offers hisresignation.

Mar 2: Leeson is arrested at Frankfurt Airport. He pleads that he be tried inLondon and not in Singapore. There are rumours of a proposed film on Leeson starring HughGrant.
Nov 23: Leeson is extradited from Germany to Singapore.
Dec 1: The Singapore court finds Leeson guilty on eight charges but decides toprosecute on only two.
Dec 2: Leeson is sentenced by the Singapore court to six-and-a-half yearsimprisonment.
