Motorcycle Mayhem Of The Week: BMW G 310 R And GS, Suzuki Burgman Street Launched And More!

Here’s a quick rundown of all the hot happenings this past week, ranging from the launch of the BMW bikes and Suzuki’s first maxi-style scooter to Kawasaki introducing a more affordable Ninja 300 and more!

It was a busy week for the motorcycling community in India, with highly anticipated bikes and motorcycles finally hitting showrooms. If you missed out or simply didn’t have the time to follow all the motorcycling action this week, here’s our quick rundown of everything significant that happened.

BMW G 310 R and GS launched

After a wait of almost two years, BMW has finally launched the G 310 R and the G 310 GS in India. The German bikemaker has priced the naked street fighter at Rs 2.99 lakh while the more off-road friendly GS gets a price tag of Rs 3.49 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The two motorcycles share the same 313cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. It churns out 34PS at 9500rpm and 28Nm at 7500rpm. However, both are designed for very different purposes.

Also, did you know the BMW G 310 R is actually cheaper than the KTM 390 Duke overseas, so why is it the opposite here?

Suzuki Burgman Street launched

After showing it off at the Auto Expo 2018, Suzuki has now launched its first maxi-style scooter, the Burgman Street, at Rs 68,000. While it may not be an out and about maxi-scooter like its bigger sibling, the Burgman 650, it certainly manages to give the impression of one, with its imposing design and bulky bodywork. Powering the scooter is the same 124cc single-cylinder engine, which is found in the Access 125. This motor makes 8.7PS of power and 10.2Nm of torque.

Kawasaki Ninja 300 launched

Known for heavily overpricing their entry-level products, Kawasaki seems to be on the path of redemption. How? Well, the company has just launched the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 300 at a more affordable price. Yes, you read that right. Priced at Rs 2.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Ninja 300 is now Rs 62,000 cheaper than the previous model. How has this been possible?

Yamaha Ray-ZR Street Rally Edition launched

If the Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR wasn't exciting enough for you, Yamaha has now launched the 'Street Rally Edition' of the scooter. However, the only exciting part about it is its name. Priced at Rs 57,898 (ex-Delhi), a hike of Rs 2,000, the scooter now comes with cosmetic updates along with a new, fully digital instrument cluster. Power comes from the same 113cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which makes 7.2PS of power and 8.1Nm of torque.

While the motorcycling community was busy with the launches of BMW’s bikes and Suzuki's scooter, Honda also launched the 2018 Navi. Now priced at Rs 44,775, the Navi comes with a fuel gauge. Which we say is a welcome addition, considering it only packs a tiny 4.5-litre fuel tank.

Suzuki V-Strom 650XT launching soon

Along with the launch of the Burgman Street, officials at Suzuki confirmed the arrival of the V-Strom 650XT. This comes as exciting news for adventure touring enthusiasts. The news comes at the right time, when ADVs are enjoying ever-increasing popularity in our market. Our sources confirm that Suzuki will bring the V-Strom to India via the CKD route, just like the Suzuki GSX-S750 and the Suzuki Hayabusa. That being said, we don't expect it has an easy sail in the country, thanks to the presence of the Kawasaki Versys 650.

Vespa Tour

The image of exploring the streets of Goa on a retro Italian scooter may seem like a scene straight out of a movie, right? Now you will get the opportunity to do the same. Piaggio flagged off the very first edition of Vespa Tours in Goa on 19 July 2018. As a part of this tour, Piaggio will provide customers the unique opportunity to ride a Vespa scooter along the scenic roads of Goa under the supervision of a tour guide and experience authentic Goan food. All this for a nominal fee. Sounds interesting?
