- The share of roads in the movement of goods has shot up from 12% in 1950-51 to 53% in 1991-92; and in the transport of passengers from 26% to 79%
- Goods traffic will grow more than 2.7 times and passenger traffic by 2.5 times between 1992 and 2000.
- The road network growth has slipped from about 5.8% per year in the '60s to 2.9% in the '80s. national highway growth rate is just 0.5%.
