Metrolinx has dropped the price of PRESTO cards. Now, the card will cost $4 rather than $6 for people who want to make transit from one place to another.
Metrolinx has reduced the price of new PRESTO cards. People who will buy the PRESTO card will now have to only pay $4, rather than $6.The reduced price of PRESTO cards and the availability of contactless payments on PRESTO devices make it easier for people to pay for transit.
What is PRESTO Card?
PRESTO Card has become a commuter's saviour as it allows an individual to travel between 11 different transit agencies, such as GO Transit and UP Express. One can find these PRESTO cards at various locations including Shoppers Drug Mart stores, transit customer outlets, and ticket and fare vending machines.
How can a customer use a PRESTO Card?
Once the customer has bought the PRESTO card, they are required to create an account. Once the account has been created, customers can load money onto the card. However, customers will only be able to load money in the card after 24 hours of purchase.
Meanwhile, paying with PRESTO cards also gives numerous perks to customers as one can avail discounts, a reduction of 5 cents on each fare on the TTC as compared to paying with cash. Back in April 2023, the TTC fares witnessed a hike of 10 cents overall for adults and youths.
People who are connecting between participating agencies and GO Transit are not required to pay a single penny as the fare has been wiped out for most local transits by Metrolinx. In the coming days Metrolinx is expected to offer the capability to utilize PRESTO cards within smartphone wallets.
