Thirteen states and union territories will be going to the polls on Friday, including 20 seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, eight each in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, seven in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, three in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur and Tripura.
The first phase of Lok Sabha polls covered 102 seats across 21 states, achieving a voter turnout of about 62% according to the Election Commission.
Reacting to Pitroda's remark PM Modi said: "The wealth you accumulate with your hard work won't pass down to your children. The Congress's hand will snatch it. The Congress's mantra is 'loot during your lifetime, loot after your death."
In an interview with ANI, Pitroda defended Congress's poll promise, saying the policy of redistribution of wealth was in the interest of the people and not in the interest of the super-rich only.
The Congress distanced itself from the senior leader's remarks and said they do not reflect the party's position. Congress's Jairam Ramesh said in a social media message that "sensationalising" Pitroda's comments is aimed at "diverting attention" from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "malicious and mischievous election campaign".
Pitroda also said that he made the remarks as in individual. He said it was unfortunate that the comments were twisted "to divert attention from what lies PM is spreading about Congress manifesto".
The schedule for Lok Sabha elections 2024 was announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 16. The voting for Lok Sabha elections 2024 is taking place in seven phases, starting April 19 and the counting of votes will take place on June 4.
While voting for Phase 1 took place on April 19, polling for Phase 2 to Phase 7 will take place on: April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.

Saurabh Kumar, a youth leader from Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United (JDU), was shot dead late Tuesday night while returning from a wedding function in Patna.
Another person accompanying him, Munmum Kumar, was injured in the firing in Parsa Bazar village, as reported by NDTV.
Saurabh was shot twice in his head by unidentified four men on bikes while his companion Munmun Kumar was hit thrice. They were rushed to a hospital where Saurabh was declared brought dead by the doctors while Munmun was admitted in a serious condition.
The Patna Police reached the spot later at night and have launched an investigation into the shooting.
Jammu and Kashmir police and paramilitary personnel held a flag march in various parts of Reasi on Wednesday evening, ahead of the second phase of the Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
The flag march was organised with the purpose of giving the locals confidence about their safety.

"I have received news that he (BJP chief JP Nadda) has brought several bags with him. He is distributing them at places where elections are taking place. Get this checked, the allegations are true. Noida, Schools and colleges in Gautam Buddh Nagar will stay closed on account of Lok Sabha election in the constituency on Friday but will remain open on Saturday, officials said.
Factories and industries have also been directed to give paid holiday to workers on Friday to enable them to cast their votes, the officials said.
Gautam Buddh Nagar, comprising the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida, goes to polls on April 26 with 26.75 lakh registered voters.

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj has announced that the party is launching a new campaign song today, which will be used for the upcoming Parliamentary elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will hold roadshows in Delhi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. This move comes as AAP's campaigning has been impacted by Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in a money laundering case in March.
Sunita is slowly emerging out of the shadows to assume a bigger role to give a fillip to AAP’s campaigning.
AAP is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with Congress in Delhi, with candidates fielded in four seats, while Congress is contesting in three seats.
Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh expressed concerns about the safety of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in judicial custody.
"Do you know that there have been several murders that have happened in Tihar Jail? When I say that Arvind Kejriwal's life is in danger, a conspiracy is being hatched against Arvind Kejriwal, and they are playing with the life of Arvind Kejriwal, no one believes it. Who will be answerable if such an incident happens with Arvind Kejriwal in jail?... They (opposition) are vicious and dangerous people..." Singh said.
Kejriwal has been in judicial custody since March and his custody has been extended till May 7.
Amid political row over idea over redistribution of wealth by Sam Pitroda, Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress, a nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court initiated proceedings on Tuesday to interpret Article 39(b) of the Constitution.
Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud remarked, "We don't have to go as far as the Marxist socialist interpretation by Justice Krishna Iyer [of Article 39(b) in the Ranganatha Reddy case of 1977]. But community resources will surely include resources which the present generation holds in trust based on inter-generational equity."
CJI Chandrachud clarified, "We cannot say Article 39(b) has no application to privately held properties like water, forests, and mines. But it should not be taken to the level of taking someone's personal property for distribution."

I just said let us find out how much injustice is being done. There should be no objection to that. If you get injured and I say that get an X-ray done, no one should object to that,” he said.
SP leader Akhilesh Yadav files his nomination from Kannauj. The party took to X on Wednesday to confirm Akhilesh's move amid suspense over the seat the SP chief was going to contest in the Lok Sabha polls.
The confirmation came just days after the Samajwadi Party declared Tej Pratap Yadav, nephew of Akhilesh Yadav, as its candidate from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday administered oath to three newly-elected members of the BJP. The new members, who took oath are Devendra Pratap Singh from Chhattisgarh, Tejveer Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Mahendra Bhatt from Uttarakhand.
"Vice-President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar administered oath to the elected Members of Rajya Sabha in Parliament House today," the chairman's office said while sharing pictures of the oath taking.
On the eve of polling day in Kerala, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly VD Satheesan urged the Election Commission to take action against Delhi's Lt Governor for allegedly visiting heads of churches in the southern state to "lure" them to take a stand in favour of BJP in the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.
