Canada announced the work-permit stream to be opened for 10,000 American H-1B visa holders. The Immigration Minister of Canada in an official release confirmed that with this work permit the visa holders will be able to come and work in the country.
Reportedly the official release from Canada's Ministry of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship also mentioned that thus the work-stream programme will also allow study and work permits for the family members of the H-1B visa holders.
The release reportedly stated, "Thousands of workers in high-tech fields are employed with companies that have large operations in both Canada and the US, and those working in the US often hold an H-1B speciality occupation visa. As of July 16, 2023, H-1B speciality occupation visa holders in the US, and their accompanying immediate family members, will be eligible to apply to come to Canada."
According to the official release, the applicants who get approved under this new programme will be receiving an open work permit that would last up to three years.
"They will be able to work for almost any employer anywhere in Canada. Their spouses and dependants will also be eligible to apply for a temporary resident visa, with a work or study permit, as needed," also stated the release.
According to reports, Canada's Immigration Minister has informed that the federal government will be developing another immigration stream for some of the most talented people in the world by the end of this year. He also mentioned that those talented people would be able to come to the country for work at tech companies irrespective of their working status. But Fraser wasn't clear about who would qualify for this stream or how many people are they thinking of permitting through it.
The H-1B visas will allow foreign nationals to work in the US temporarily in specialized occupations which may include the technology sector. The recent layoffs in the tech sector have now left several H-1B visa holders to look for jobs in order to stay in the foreign country.
