India should prepare a database of its nationals abroad to deal with any possible emergency situation, a parliamentary committee said on Wednesday, citing the implications of the recent crisis in Afghanistan and the conflict in Ukraine for the security of Indians. The parliamentary committee on the Ministry of External Affairs, in a report, also recommended that a standard operating procedure (SOP) should be put in place for evacuation of Indian nationals from abroad in case of exigencies and the same may be made available at all Indian missions and posts. "The recent political crisis in Afghanistan and conflict in Ukraine is a gross reminder about the implications on safety and security of Indian nationals," the committee said.
