A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck several parts of Pakistan on Sunday, causing panic and prompting residents to evacuate their homes. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake originated at the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region with an epicenter depth of 223km, which mitigated its destructive impact. Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a separate incident, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred near Jalalabad in Afghanistan at a depth of 15km, as reported by the PDM. Although no casualties were reported, three children were injured in the Battagram district when the roof of a cattle pen collapsed during the quake.
Similar tremors were felt in New Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Srinagar, and Poonch, as reported by Hindustan Times. The US Geological Survey confirmed a 5.2 magnitude earthquake southeast of Jurm, Afghanistan.
