Gov Mehmet Ali Ozkan told the media that the accident occurred after the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road and plunged into the ditch.
Reportedly, the bus was going towards Istanbul from Sivas and the accident took place 240 km east of the city of Yozgat.
Ozkan told AP that 11 passengers died on the spot and the 12th person died later at the hospital.
The 19 others who were injured were taken to nearby hospitals and Ozkan informed the media that one of them was in a serious condition.
Ozkan also said that the carelessness of the driver could be a reason behind the crash while a proper investigation is underway.
