The incident took place when the police were called to Forsyth Middle School at 6:45 pm on a report of a stolen forklift, MLive.com reported.
Upon arrival, cops spotted the forklift traveling south through the city and initiated a pursuit, reaching speeds between 15 and 20 mph (24 and 32 kph).
Subsequently, the driver, identified as Ann Arbor, a 12-year-old boy, finally stopped the forklift and was taken into custody at about 8 pm.
During the investigation, police found that the stolen vehicle, a Genie GTH-636 Telehandler, was left unlocked at the middle school with the key hidden inside.
Further investigation is ongoing.
