In a game that ended in a narrow 34-28 loss for Vikings, the toll taken on their players due to injuries was unprecedented, causing concern among fans and experts alike.
At least three key players had to be evaluated by the Vikings' medical staff for injuries during the game. Tackle Oli Udoh sustained a concerning knee injury in the fourth quarter and was carted off the field.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said, "We're still evaluating him, but it does not look good." This injury compounds the already challenging situation on the offensive line for the Vikings, who were missing two starting linemen, center Garrett Bradbury and left tackle Christian Darrisaw.
Darrisaw, who was active but unable to play due to an aggravated ankle injury suffered in warm-ups, left the team further depleted.
Safety Josh Metellus also suffered a shoulder injury, prompting post-game X-rays that thankfully came negative. Linebacker Jordan Hicks faced a lower leg issue, and cornerback Akayleb Evans experienced cramping during the game. Hicks and Metellus however were able to return to the game. The Vikings' offensive line was particularly hard-hit by injuries, with quarterback Kirk Cousins taking three hits in the first five pass plays behind a makeshift line. Austin Schlottmann stepped in for the injured Bradbury at center.
However, the Vikings are now down to just six healthy offensive linemen on the active roster. With fans' hopes getting grim with the situation of the Vikings, it is only for time to tell if the team will regroup and adapt to be able to bounce back in the coming weeks.
