Unsparing Fangs

The landlords are no longer renewing leases of the old-timers. The market is named after the Frontier Gandhi and some of the tenants have been here since Partition. I am told that a 500 square foot shop has been recently vacated and the landlord is asking for six lakh rupees a month. You have to sell an awful lot of medicines and books to come up with that kind of rent.

Fortunately, one bookseller owns the property and so he is still there until someone comes up with an offer he cannot refuse. The other day I asked him the title of his current bestseller in fiction. It’s Vyjanthimala’s autobiography.
