'Brij Bhushan Should Be In Jail, Not Parliament': DCW Chief Swati Maliwal Hits Out At Delhi Police, Centre

Launching a scathing attack on Delhi police and the Centre, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal said that despite police's claims of "technical evidence" against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh, neither the police nor the centre has taken any action against the BJP leader.

"Delhi police has submitted concrete evidence against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in court. I want to ask Delhi Police why they didn't arrest him, even though they knew he sexually harassed wrestlers. Central govt should also answer why they did not take any action against him," she said. The chargesheet was filed after police investigation into the sexual harassment allegations of India's top wrestlers. The evidence which also includes photographs shows Bhushan “making advances towards (one) complainant”, reported The Indian Express on Tuesday. 

The chargesheet further states that Singh was “liable to be prosecuted and punished for offences” of sexual harassment, molestation and stalking under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman); 354 A (sexual harassment); and 354 D (stalking). "The whole world knows that Brij Bhushan Singh is a gunda who has many charges against him. Top female wrestlers of the country sat on the roads, begged and demanded the arrest of Brij Bhushan. But Delhi police did not arrest him and victim-shamed the wrestlers instead," Swati Maliwal said.

She also slammed the Central government and asked them, "For how long will you keep protecting your leaders? Why has no action been taken against him? Is this how our daughters will be protected?" She further said that Brij Bhushan belongs in the jail and not in the parliament. 

Seven wrestlers including a minor had filed separate complaints with Delhi's Connaught Place police station against Singh regarding sexual harassment and criminal intimidation on April 21.
