In another blow to Air India, a passenger, who was onboard Kathmandu Air India flight on January 8, took to Twitter to express her disappointment against a stone that she found in her meal.
Taking to Twitter, the passenger and an Indian journalist Sarvapriya Sangwan, said, " “You don’t need resources and money to ensure stone-free food Air India (@airindiain)”.
Sangwan was travelling on AI 215 and said that this kind of "negligence" on the part of the airlines was "unacceptable".
Responding to the tweet, Air India tweeted saying that “this is concerning and we’re taking this up immediately with our catering team”. “Please allow us some time to get back. We appreciate you bringing this to our notice,” the airline said.
In a statement, an Air India spokesperson took cognisance of the matter and wrote, "Air India has taken serious note of the incident where a passenger found stone in her in-flight meal on AI 215. We sincerely regret this incident and have apologised to the passenger." The authority said that strict action will be initiated against the concerned caterer.
Recently, the Tata group-owned Air India has come under fire over "lackadaisical and delayed" responses towards back-to-back mishaps happening onboard.
DGCA has issued a show cause notice to Air India after finding the airline's response as "lackadaisical and delayed" regarding two of passenger misbehaviour incidents onboard a flight from Paris to New Delhi last month.
This is the second time in less than a week that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show cause notice to the Tata group-owned Air India.
On Monday, Air India Managing Director and CEO Campbell Wilson met DGCA chief Arun Kumar, according to a source. Details about the meeting could not be immediately ascertained.
The latest show cause notice to which the airline has to respond in two weeks is in relation to two incidents onboard the Paris-New Delhi flight on December 6, 2022 that were not reported to the regulator.
In one incident, a drunk passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory and was not listening to the crew. In the second incident, another passenger allegedly relieved himself on a vacant seat and blanket of a fellow female passenger when she went to lavatory, DGCA said in a statement on Monday.
