‘Those Involved Will Not Be Spared’: Jammu Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha On Poonch Civilain Killings

Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced compensation of Rs 20 lakh for each family, a plot of land and a government job for a family member of three slain civilians in Poonch.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has said those involved in the killing of three civilians in Poonch “will not be spared”.

Poonch incident:

The three civilians from Topa Pir village were killed after terror attack on Army in Jammu region’s Poonch on December 21 last year.

Later, the families of the three slain civilians—Safeer Ahmed, Shabir Ahmed and Mohammad Showkat –had alleged that they were killed in  custody by security forces.

Other Five civilians were also admitted with injuries allegedly in forces custody.

Defence Minister, COAS visit to Poonch:

Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, had visited the ground zero.

Both had met the families of the deceased civilians.

Singh had expressed solidarity with the armed forces, stating that every soldier is like a family member.

Singh told soldiers that they should not "make any mistake" that hurts an Indian.

"You are the country's protectors. But I want to request you that besides ensuring the country's security, you also have the responsibility to win the hearts of the people. There should be no mistake that hurts an Indian," Defence minister had said.

"Every Indian feels this way. It is not tolerable to us if anyone casts an evil eye on you. Security and intelligence agencies play a crucial role in stopping such attacks. Whatever support is needed to step up surveillance will be provided by the government. The doors to our treasury are fully open," he had said.

The Defence Minister had added that such attacks should not be taken for granted.

"I know you all are alert, but I think more alertness is required. Your bravery makes us proud. Your sacrifice, your efforts have no parallel. And they are priceless. When a soldier dies a martyr, even if we pay some compensation, it cannot compensate for the loss. I want to assure you that the government is with you and your welfare and security are high on our priority list," he had said.

LG Sinha on Poonch incident:

Sinha, as per the report, also said: “The J&K administration is making every effort to retain their trust and I will ensure that their trust is maintained.”
