'Why Is PM Modi Saving Brij Bhushan?' Congress Asks After Delhi Police Says Evidence Enough Against WFI Chief

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi’s Saket was hearing the Delhi Police’s statement on Saturday in the sexual harassment case after the chargesheet was filed.

The Congress on Sunday brought up the Brij Bhushan sexual harassment case and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “saving” the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president who is also a BJP MP.

In a post on ‘X’, Congress alleged that Modi government supported Brij Bhushan despite the strong accusations against him by female wrestlers.

“In court, Delhi Police gave the statement that the evidence given is enough to frame charges. Despite all this, the Modi government, which pretends to respect women, is standing with Brij Bhushan, accused of sexual exploitation. The question remains the same even today - 'Why is PM Modi saving Brij Bhushan?',” Congress said.

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi’s Saket was hearing the Delhi Police’s statement on Saturday in the sexual harassment case after the chargesheet was filed. The Delhi Police told the court that the evidence against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was enough to frame charges.

Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava, representing Delhi Police, said that Singh consistently displayed behaviour intended to "outrage the modesty" of the women wrestlers at every opportunity he got. He emphasised that Singh's actions were deliberate and ill-intentioned.

The chargesheet in the sexual harassment case was filed on June 15 after months of protest led by world championship-winning Indian wrestlers.

The charges against Brij Bhushan Singh, a six-time MP, include Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Notably, Brij Bhushan Singh and suspended WFI additional secretary Vinod Tomar were granted bail by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal on July 20.
