18-Year-Old Led 'Maya Gang' Behind The Murder Of Amazon Senior Manager

The 18-year-old led "Maya Gang" has been detained in connection with the murder of Amazon Senior Manager Harpreet Gill.

Bilal Gani alias Mallu and Sameer alias King Maya, suspects in connection with the Bhajanpura Amazon Manager’s murder case have been detained by the Delhi Police. The accused were arrested from Signature Bridge at about 2 am on Thursday. The Police has recovered the weapon employed to commit the crime, and have booked them under Arms Act, subsequently handing it over to a local police.

The prime accused in the murder of Amazon manager Harpreet Gill is an 18-year-old. The accused also has four other murder cases charged against him, committed by him as a juvenile. With over 2,000 followers on Instagram, Mohammad Sameer alias King Maya leads a gang of over a dozen members. The teen’s Instagram profile- king_maya_302, serves as a spine-chilling testimony to his delinquent rationale.

Apart from the customary images in flashy clothes and philosophical captions, King Maya is seen wielding and firing guns in a highlight reel labelled ‘jail’. The reel also includes a slide of several youngsters behind bars. Another highlight captioned “Maya Gang” shows a dozen teenagers. According to the police, these teenagers constitute the infamous “Maya Gang”- responsible for the tyranny in Northeast Delhi. The gang takes its name after its leader who is believed to have been inspired by Vivek Oberoi’s character Maya in Shootout at Lokhandwala. Reports suggest that he had a method to his madness- he followed a trend of shooting his victims in the head.

King Maya’s  associate Bilal Gani, who has only recently turned 18, was involved in a murder and a robbery case in 2022. Gani, however, managed to come out and has, since, been putting in hours at a welding shop.

While the manager died on the spot, his uncle Govind, 32, is left fighting for his life after being shot in the head. As per investigation, the shooting was a consequence of a road rage incident.

Harpreet and Govind had entered gali no. 8 in Bhajanpura, on a bike at around 10:30 pm Tuesday, when they crossed paths with the accused Maya, Gani and their associates Sohail (23), Mohammad Junaid (23) and Adnan (19), who were returning from a party on two scooters. Given the congested space in the narrow lane, the two parties had a disagreement on who would give way. The altercation soon amplified and spawned the fatal episode.

Police scanned footage from a CCTV camera in the lane, which revealed visuals of the two accused, with their faces covered, on a scooter. Operations and investigation to get hold of the others branded in the case is underway, said the Police.

Joy N Tirkey, DCP Northeast Delhi,  told ANI that "Both the victims were going on a motorcycle. From the initial investigation, we have known that there were 4-5 people on two-wheelers. All of a sudden there was a firing after a verbal argument. Harpreet was shot in his head and his maternal uncle Govind was also shot in his head, but he was stable. I was able to talk to him last night. We are working on some suspects. Yes, that (Maya Gang) is one of the suspects. Criminals can be 4 to 5 in number.”
