41 Workers Rescued From Uttarkashi Tunnel Are Fit To Return Home: AIIMS-Rishikesh

Briefing the media here on their health condition, Dr Ravikant said the workers were thoroughly examined and their blood test, X-ray, and ECG reports were normal.

The 41 workers who were rescued from the Uttarkshi tunnel on November 28, after being trapped in a collapsed road structure for 17 days, have been deemed fit to return home, by the doctors at AIIMS-Rishikesh on Thursday.

Dr. Ravikant, briefing the media on their health condition, stated that the workers underwent thorough examinations, including blood tests, X-rays, and ECGs, and all reports returned normal, as reported by PTI.

"They are physically normal and clinically stable. We have given them clearance to return home," he said.

The workers, rescued Tuesday night after a challenging operation, may require acclimatisation due to their extended confinement. As a precaution, they have been advised to visit the nearest hospital for a check-up after two weeks.

Dr. Ravikant said that the workers are in good health, having received regular care during their time in the tunnel, with no reported cases of starvation.

“They are mostly quite young or of middle age. That also helped them stay fit," Dr. Ravikant said.

To monitor their mental health, doctors from AIIMS-Rishikesh will stay connected with the workers through telemedicine in the coming weeks. The group comprises workers from Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh.
