Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha was on Friday suspended from the Rajya Sabha.
Chadha was suspended from the Upper House for gross violation of rules and contemptuous conduct, pending report of privileges committee, reported PTI. Before Chadha, Sanjay Singh of AAP was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the Monsoon Session.
“Am I guilty because I questioned the leaders of the biggest party in the world inside the Parliament or am I guilty because I put forth my point on Delhi Services bill and demanded justice from them?” Chadha said in a video.
Chadha's suspension followed a motion moved by the Leader of House Piyush Goyal who sought action against him for including names of four members of Rajya Sabha in a proposed select committee for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, reported PTI.
The motion moved by Goyal was passed by a voice vote.
After Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha was also adjourned sine die on Friday. This brought the Monsoon Session of the Parliament to an end which was marred by frequent adjournments and a face-off between the government and the Opposition over demand of a discussion on Manipur violence and a statement on the violence by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Opposition also attempted to mount a united front against the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha which eventually passed.
