Arunachal Pradesh Child Rights Commission Demands Arrest Of School Official For Corporal Punishment

The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) expressed concern on Monday over reported cases of corporal punishment inflicted upon 20 children in a school in Seijosa, Pakke Kessang district. During an inquiry led by APSCPCR member secretary Khoda Rakhi and senior officials, it was revealed that the school in-charge, Sadhvi Devkriti, had subjected students from Class 1 to 4 to physical abuse on December 7, threatening dire consequences if they reported the incident to their parents, as reported by PTI. 

Parents discovered the matter when they noticed bruises on their children's bodies. The school, run by the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust, promptly terminated Sadhvi Devkriti's services on December 10. However, the APSCPCR asserted that termination alone is insufficient, demanding her immediate arrest and appropriate legal action.

The commission has consistently recommended thorough background checks for all educational institute employees, both government and private, to prevent child rights violations. Notably, the Acharyakulam School, operational since 2019, remains unregistered, prompting the commission to call for strict action by the education department against the school's management.
