Taking umbrage at the recent electrocution incidents, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday said the power department and civic agencies have been directed to prevent such episodes in the city.
Sakshi Ahuja (34) died after accidentally coming in contact with a live wire at the New Delhi Railway Station complex on Sunday amid rainfall. In another instance, a 17-year-old boy died after suffering an electric shock in southeast Delhi's Taimoor Nagar same day.
"I read media reports an auto drivers complaining about electricity passing through a board near the pole (where the incident happened) at the New Delhi Railway Station. All the civic agencies like the PWD, MCD and the power department have been directed to ensure that such incidents are not repeated, otherwise strict action will be taken against officials responsible for it," the minister told PTI Video.
He also accused the Centre of converting the Delhi Police into a "political tool" amid a political slugfest over the law and order situation in the national capital.
"I was reading in the newspapers that 150 cars are stolen every day in Delhi, which means two cars are stolen in every assembly constituency on a daily basis. Where are these cars going? I feel that the Lt Governor should set his priorities right.
"Incidents of snatching, armed robbery, mobile snatching, chain snatching, bag snatching have become common. There is no fear of law. The Delhi Police is probing political conspiracies. We had the best police force, but the Centre has converted them into a political tool by misusing it. It is very unfortunate for the police and the people of Delhi," Bharadwaj claimed.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday targeted the Union government and Lt Governor V K Saxena over Delhi's law and order situation following a robbery inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel, claiming "jungle raj" was prevailing in the city gearing up for the G20 Summit.
If given the charge of law and order, the AAP government will make Delhi the "safest city" in the country, he claimed.
